On March 28, 2026, a one-day scientific conference on the prevention of haemoglobinopathies took place at the Amphitheatre “Phaedon Fessas” of Laiko General Hospital of Athens. The event was organised by the Unit of Mediterranean Anaemia and the Center of Expertise in Haemoglobinopathies, in collaboration with the hospital’s Nursing Service.

The conference brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, and experts to discuss the latest developments in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of haemoglobinopathies, including thalassaemia and sickle cell disease. Topics ranged from screening strategies and genetic counselling to emerging diagnostic approaches and multidisciplinary collaboration.

According to the official programme, the HELIOS Action was presented as part of the conference’s focus on European-level initiatives and collaboration.
