The HELIOS network is committed to ensuring equal access to training on haemoglobinopathies for all.
The eighth speaker in the webinar series is Prof. Maddalena Casale, expert in paediatric haematology, particularly on haemoglobinopathies, including iron overload in thalassaemia, endocrine complications and those related to asplenia and sickle cell disease.

Maddalena Casale, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in Pediatrics at the University Vanvitelli, Naples. Her research focuses on pediatric hematology, particularly haemoglobinopathies, including iron overload in thalassemia, endocrine and asplenia-related complications, and sickle cell disease. Dr. Casale is a co-author of national and international guidelines on thalassemia and sickle cell management, including the 2025 guidelines by the Thalassemia International Federation. She is an active member of several professional societies, including ERN-EuroBloodNet and the American Society of Hematology. She received the 2019 ASH Global Research Award.
